Within this range of equipment, the systems that offer the most advantages are the <strong>low-pressure cleaning systems<\/strong>.\r\n\r\nIn contrast to high-pressure cleaning equipment, which works at 100-150 bar, systems using water at around 20 bar pressure are called low-pressure systems.\r\n\r\nThis equipment is designed specifically for application onto surfaces of the four factors needed for correct cleaning as set out in the Sinner diagram.\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Time<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Temperature<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Chemical action<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Mechanical action<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nThe low-pressure cleaning and disinfection facilities basically consist of <strong>central units<\/strong> containing a vertical centrifugal pump that produces and sends water at approximately 20 bar pressure to various <strong>satellite units,<\/strong> located at different points in the production areas. The satellites dilute the products used for cleaning and disinfection to the dosage of use, allowing different work functions to be selected: cleaning, disinfection, rinsing, etc.\r\n\r\nThe attached illustration shows a facility consisting of a central unit with a cleaning point and two satellites fed with pressurised water from the central unit:\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-50137 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMATGE-1-600x141.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"141\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMATGE-1-600x141.webp 600w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMATGE-1-840x197.webp 840w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMATGE-1-320x75.webp 320w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMATGE-1-480x113.webp 480w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMATGE-1-800x188.webp 800w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMATGE-1.webp 1072w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>\r\n\r\nIn the example above, the three satellites suck and dilute the chemical individually (<strong>decentralised systems<\/strong>), but there are <strong>centralised systems<\/strong> that perform the dilution with central units located outside the production rooms, sending the chemical dilution to the point of application at the appropriate dosage:\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-50142 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imatge-2-600x142.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"142\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imatge-2-600x142.webp 600w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imatge-2-840x198.webp 840w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imatge-2-320x76.webp 320w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imatge-2-480x113.webp 480w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imatge-2-800x189.webp 800w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imatge-2.webp 1072w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>\r\n\r\nOPC cleaning and disinfection processes are normally carried out in 5 stages:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Initial rinse<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Application of Detergent (cleaning in foam form, using air)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Intermediate rinse<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Application of Disinfectant (spray disinfection)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Final rinse<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nLow-pressure equipment allows the 5 stages of the cleaning programme to be carried out effectively, quickly, systematically, reliably, conveniently and economically, saving a lot of manpower.\r\n\r\nLow-pressure technology offers significant advantages over high-pressure systems and, of course, much higher performance than the use of mains pressure water (3-5 bar common at water points in food or beverage factories).\r\n<h2><strong>Characteristics of low-pressure cleaning systems<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<h3><strong>Increased water flow<\/strong><\/h3>\r\nTests carried out by the<em> Norwegian Research Institute SINTEF <\/em>show that with low-pressure cleaning almost twice as much water flow (exactly 84%) reaches the object\/surface to be cleaned compared to high-pressure cleaning:\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-50128 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imatge-barres.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"331\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imatge-barres.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imatge-barres-320x217.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imatge-barres-480x326.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 331px) 100vw, 331px\" \/>\r\n\r\nThe higher water flow rate applied to the object\/surface significantly reduces the cleaning time, increasing the speed of removal of the deposited residues. Although it may seem contradictory, the effect of the increased flow rate reduces the total water consumption as it yields much more water.\r\n<h3><strong>Increased impact of the water jet on the surface<\/strong><\/h3>\r\nTests carried out by SINTEF show that, when water is used at low pressure, a greater impact of the jet on the surface is achieved:\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-50149 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imatge-verticals.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"314\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imatge-verticals.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imatge-verticals-320x241.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 314px) 100vw, 314px\" \/>\r\n\r\nThe results show that, when rinsing from 5 different distances, the impact of the water jet on the surface is on average 22% higher than rinsing with high pressure.\r\n\r\nA higher impact of the water jet causes the debris to fall off more easily (due to the increased mechanical action), saving time in the cleaning process.\r\n<h3><strong>Larger impact area of the water jet<\/strong><\/h3>\r\nTests carried out by SINTEF clearly show that the impact area of the water jet is larger for low-pressure cleaning than for high-pressure cleaning:\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-50154 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/moltes-barres.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"304\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/moltes-barres.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/moltes-barres-320x261.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/moltes-barres-480x391.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 304px) 100vw, 304px\" \/>\r\n\r\nAs shown in the graph above, the difference in impact area increases as the distance to the surface increases.\r\n\r\nThe impact area is of great importance for the maximum efficiency of the cleaning process, as it allows covering a larger area with a shorter time span.\r\n<h2><strong>Better heat transfer: lower temperature drop<\/strong><\/h2>\r\nTests carried out by SINTEF also show that, thanks to the higher water flow rate, low-pressure cleaning generates a more efficient transfer of thermal energy from the water onto the surface compared to high-pressure cleaning:\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-50160 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/caida-tempertura.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"311\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/caida-tempertura.png 575w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/caida-tempertura-320x299.png 320w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/caida-tempertura-480x448.png 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 311px) 100vw, 311px\" \/>\r\n\r\nThe temperature difference is already significant at application distances of 25 cm, increasing as the distance to the surface increases. At a distance of 60 cm, the difference in temperature drop is up to 13.5 \u00b0C.\r\n\r\nTemperature is a very important factor in order to achieve the proper fluidisation of grease and thus remove it from the surfaces. A rapid drop in temperature leads to a reduced ability to dissolve grease, thus prolonging the cleaning time and decreasing the efficiency of the process.\r\n\r\nTherefore, to improve cleaning efficiency it is important to note that, according to SINTEF tests, low-pressure cleaning systems perform best at distances between 25 cm and 50 cm from the surface.\r\n\r\nTo achieve this recommended distance, the equipment can be fitted with many types of accessories, such as nozzles with different flow rates and application angles or lances of different lengths.\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-50165 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/makina-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"316\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/makina-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/makina-840x561.jpg 840w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/makina-320x214.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/makina-480x320.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/makina-800x534.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/makina.jpg 1079w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 316px) 100vw, 316px\" \/>\r\n<h3><strong>Aerosol reduction<\/strong><\/h3>\r\nAerosols can remain in the air for several minutes. Finer droplets are dispersed and may contaminate uncontaminated areas. If the generated aerosols contain and carry microorganisms from contaminated surfaces, they are called bioaerosols.\r\n\r\nThe generation of bioaerosols in the food industry can originate during the production process, but their main formation occurs during the cleaning and disinfection process.\r\n\r\nSpecial attention should also be paid to aerosols generated by the spraying of detergents and disinfectants, as these form small droplets that are spread in the air and easily inhaled, increasing the risk of causing respiratory impairment or illness to the personnel applying them.\r\n\r\nTests carried out by SINTEF clearly show that cleaning with a low-pressure cleaning unit reduces the total amount of particles in the air by at least 50% compared to high-pressure cleaning:\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-50175 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Aerosol-reduction1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"318\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Aerosol-reduction1.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Aerosol-reduction1-60x60.jpg 60w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Aerosol-reduction1-320x322.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-50170 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Aerosol-reduction.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"319\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Aerosol-reduction.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Aerosol-reduction-320x255.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 319px) 100vw, 319px\" \/>\r\n\r\nWith low-pressure cleaning, the droplets formed are larger, falling faster and thus reducing the risk of airborne dispersion and cross-contamination:\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-50180 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Aerosol-reduction-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"334\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Aerosol-reduction-3.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Aerosol-reduction-3-320x179.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.proquimia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Aerosol-reduction-3-480x269.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 334px) 100vw, 334px\" \/>\r\n<h3><strong>Employee health and safety.<\/strong><\/h3>\r\nThe cleaning and disinfection procedure using low-pressure systems improves the working conditions of the users compared to high-pressure systems, since:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Less vibration occurs in the hoses<\/li>\r\n \t<li>The noise level is less than 70 dBa<\/li>\r\n \t<li>There is reduced risk of accidental impacts by employees due to hose leaks<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nCleaning with high-pressure systems can result in cleaning personnel developing hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS). This is an injury caused by continuous exposure to vibration from hand tools or machinery such as grinders, disc sanders, random orbital sanders, etc. They can also cause \"white finger\" syndrome, a vascular disorder affecting the blood vessels in the fingers.
